This post came from my first Kickstarter Campaign — and I’m giving it a permanent home here — enjoy!
I love making our kids facepalm. Or cringe. Or even frown. Generally because after the initial obligatory complaints and overwhelm, the super cheesy things I say and do tend to elicit a smile on even the grumpiest of faces — mine included. Especially if it’s a day when we’re running late, when I’m stressed out and am fantasizing about stringing them up by their toenails. That’s usually one of the best times for me to dance around the kitchen lip syncing the entirety of “Bohemian Rhapsody” instead. This song especially receives many frowns — I highly recommend it. I don’t think they eat their breakfast any faster when I serenade them, but it definitely keeps my frustration in check.
So, to all the mamas out there, I celebrate you! For all the times you choose to light up a room, cheer your kids on, celebrate the milestones, and train your kids up to be the type of adults you’d actually want to hang out with one day. I celebrate every time you choose to keep your frustration in check and are intentional about carving pathways into your kids' hearts. And I especially cheer you on for any of the ways you take great care of yourself and ensure your needs are getting met — not the easiest of things for a mom to do.
And to my Mama and Mama-in-Law — thanks for raising Kyle and I to value our faith, to savor this time when the kids are home in our house, and all of the ways you've rooted for us since we were both small. We're so grateful. And to my Grannie Annie — thanks for all the laughs and for teaching me how dangerously awesome it is to wield both a sewing needle and a rolling pin. We love all of you so much — Happy Mother’s Day!
And, again, a huge thank you to each and every one of you who've chosen to share this project or back it. You guys are amazing! Remember, Kickstarter is all-or-nothing — there's no risk on your end — pledges are only collected if we hit the fundraising goal and Lulu's hardcover edition goes to print. I'm so excited that we're even this far, and can't do this without you!
