This post came from my second Kickstarter Campaign — and I’m giving it a permanent home here — enjoy!
Well, if there's one good thing about getting sick right now, it's being stuck in bed, and therefore catching up on typing! hahahahah. Anyway, the end of the school year was a ton of fun and activity (complete with our fifth grader graduating elementary school)! So, it's taken me an extra bit of time to get this out — but here we go:
AWARD NEWS
I'm so excited to share some great news with all of you — Lulu's a medal finalist in the 2022 Florida Authors and Publishers Association President's Book Awards! She's up for the Children's Book Illustration award. Eeek! They will announce medal placement at the end of July :D — regardless of whether we land on bronze or gold, I’m just humbled and happy to be considered. And, if I hadn't published the book here with all of you, I wouldn't have had a book to enter! So, THANK YOU again and again for backing this project!
BALLOONS
I did go and visit a couple more schools before the end of the year. At one of the schools, the performing arts teacher did a unit with the 2nd graders the week before my visit and they all created dream balloons of things they dream of doing as they grow! The balloon project was hung as a backdrop for the story time. It was incredible! We had lots of great conversations about "flipping gloomy thinking" and perseverance, of course! At another school, one of the classes showed up with beautiful colorings of Lulu in her helmet. They did such a great job! The young scholars, teachers and administrations and both schools were wonderful — can't wait to visit again next school year!
JET PACKS
Lulu and I also had a fantastic time building jet packs with kiddos at our first library visit! There ended up being more kids than expected, so I probably should have picked an easier project! Not that the kids complained — they immediately started blasting off! It was a ton of fun and we're looking forward to future library story times!
Another thank you to all of you who continue to share about Lulu and leave ratings and reviews on Amazon! I can't tell you how much those are a huge encouragement to me, and they help open doors with people who are completely new to Lulu! If you haven't yet and are so inclined, any honest rating or short review means a lot. Here's the link.
Lastly, if everything works out, I hope to have a bit more summer reading program fun to share with you in the next couple of weeks — so stay tuned! Thanks again and again for your support — we can't do this without all of you! Bethany + Lulu
